Some Local Beaches Still Posted

A number of popular Huron County beaches are still posted as unsafe for swimming.

It’s because of higher than normal e-coli levels in water samples taken earlier this week.

The posted beaches include the Goderich main beach, Rotary Cov,  St. Christopher’s beach in Goderich, and the Bayfield main beach.  Swimming is also not recommended on several smaller beaches along the Huron shoreline, and warning signs are posted.

In Bruce County, the Lions Head beach is now considered safe for swimming.  Water samples taken at North Bruce Peninsula beach this week show results within acceptable levels according to Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards.

Based on these results, the beach, which was posted as unsafe on July 30, is now considered safe for swimming.

Although this latest sample result shows acceptable results, people are reminded that water conditions can change quickly.  High winds and heavy rain are likely to have an impact on water quality.
