Spike Belt in Listowel Ends Police ChaseAugust 6, 2014 4:47pm
A male driver is facing several criminal charges after leading police on a lengthy chase throughout Huron and Perth counties.
Police say shortly after midnight, a pick-up truck with a burned out headlight was noticed by a patrolling officer on Highway 23 north of Listowel. The pick-up momentarily pulled over at Fairlane Road after the patrol car’s emergency lights were activated. But as the officer approached the vehicle sped away.
As officers followed the suspect they received information that the vehicle was reported stolen from Palmerston. The driver failed to stop for police and continued through the towns of Listowel, Atwood, Ethel and Molesworth.
The driver eventually returned to Listowel where he proceeded to drive over a spike belt. Then after a short foot chase officers were able to locate and arrest the fleeing male.
