Meaford Considers Caring Community FundJuly 30, 2014 5:58am
The executive director of the Community Foundation Grey Bruce is asking for Meaford’s support for the Foundation’s Smart and Caring Community Fund.
Aly Boltman told council Monday night, that Smart and Caring Communities is a nationwide project inspired by Canada’s governor-general David Johnston.
Boltman says Johnston is also the patron of Community Foundations of Canada. As patron, Johnston is calling on community foundations to build a “Smart and Caring Nation” leading up to Canada’s sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary in 2017.
She says Johnston’s vision has inspired community foundations across the country including the one in Meaford.
Between now and 2017, these community foundations will set up a local Smart & Caring Community Fund. Such a fund would help a foundation to support local priorities and the ongoing needs in the community it serves.
Boltman says Community Foundations Grey Bruce’s main project will be to set up an Education Initiative Fund. This fund will be used to support high school students pursuing a post- secondary education.
Boltman told council she will send an endorsement of the education initiative for them to vote upon.
Mayor Richardson said staff will use its wording in writing a resolution for council to sign at their next meeting. That meeting will be on the second Monday in September.
