Plans for Age-Friendly Huron East Community

A team of planners from the University of Waterloo wants to make Huron East an Age-Friendly community.
Professor John Lewis defines an Age-Friendly community as one in which people want to be born, grow up, and retire.
Huron East council has endorsed the proposal and Lewis says the next step involves the team getting out into the community and talking to people about what they want their community to be. They also plan to distribute surveys and look at setting up committees that would involve the community.
Professor Lewis points out they’ll be working from a World Health Organization model for Age-Friendly Communities but expanding on that to include ten specific areas ranging from housing and transportation to health care.
Anyone interested in being involved in the discussion can contact the Huron East municipal office.
