Grey Bruce Emerald Ash Borer Battle

A Saugeen Conservation Forestry Technician says the Emerald Ash Borer infestation has spread at amazing speed.
The first pest turned up in the region about two years ago.
Technician Donna Lacey says the Conservation Authority is extremely busy fielding calls from worried landowners wondering how the bug will affect their trees.
Conservation staff can identify and treat prized ash trees for the Emerald Ash Borer.
Saugeen has teamed up with the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority, the province, Bruce and Grey County to try and slow the infestation. The battle plan includes workshops on how to tackle the problem and signs warning of the presence of the invasive insect.
Campers are reminded not to move firewood from infested regions, into other areas. The Ash Borer arrived in North america in wood packing material from Asia in about 2002.
