Pettapiece Renews Call To Reform Liability Insurance

Randy Pettapiece, MPP for Perth Wellington.

Perth-Wellington Conservative MPP Randy Pettapiece is renewing his call for a long-term solution to reform joint and several liability insurance.

He says the current insurance system is hurting taxpayers and municipalities.

During question period today, Pettapiece demanded that Attorney General Madeleine Meilleur state when the government will come forward with reforms.

In February, Pettapiece introduced a private member’s motion, passed by all parties, calling for reform by June 2014.

His motion won statements of support from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the Insurance Bureau of Canada, insurance brokers, and over 210 municipalities across Ontario.

In today’s response, Meilleur failed to provide a date when change will be introduced, and said options are still under consideration.
