Fire Burns Seaforth Queen’s HotelJuly 7, 2014 5:48am
It will be up to an investigator from the Fire Marshal’s office to determined what sparked a blaze at the historic Queen’s Hotel in Seaforth.
Huron East Fire Chief Marty Bedard says it appears the fire broke out late last night on the third floor of the building.
He says. “The whole shell of the building is standing. The third floor and the roof has collapsed inside. We don’t know how much damage is done inside, but I’m pretty certain there will be a considerable amount of damage just from the collapse in, and the water damage.”
He says heavy rain and lightening made it a challenging night for firefighters from Huron East, West Perth, and Central Huron.
Two firefighters were treated for exhaustion.
A residential area to the north of the Queen’s had to be evacuated due to smoke.
Highway 8 is closed eastbound from Main Street to Victoria Street East in Seaforth.
