Bruce Social Assistance Recipients Put to Work
Young people collecting social assistance in Bruce County will soon get an opportunity to improve their skills.
County council has approved a pilot project that will see selected social assistance clients participate in the county’s trails program, which builds and maintains hiking and ATV trails on county land.
Director of Social Services Terry Sanderson says the pilot project is aimed at younger clients who tend to lack both the education and job skills required to find employment.
He says the goal is to get those clients back out into a working environment, while giving them on-the-job training to help them secure employment after they are finished the program.
The program will not start until later this year, but
if successful, they expect to put between 30 and 40 people through the trails program each year.
