Beach Water Testing In Huron
The approach of summer means beach-goers are preparing to fan out along Ontario’s west coast.
Fortunately, people can get up-to-date information on the quality of the water before they head to the Huron County shoreline.
The Huron County Health Unit offers a telephone hot line, web page and Twitter updates about water conditions. You can also scan the QR code on the beach sign to go to a mobile friendly web page on water quality.
The health unit samples water at 14 beaches twice a week, throughout the summer. Public health labs analyse the samples to determine the presence of bacteria or viruses. Factors like rain, wind and wave action can affect water quality by stirring up the sand and silt on the bottom.
