Walk For A Cure In Owen Sound

The family and friends of a 5-year-old Type 1 Diabetic from Port Elgin will walk for a cure this weekend.

Emma Yeaman had an upset stomach, and tiredness for a few weeks before her doctor diagnosed the disease.

Her mother, Kelly, says her body was already in starvation mode, and if they hadn’t caught the problem early, Emma could have ended up in a coma.  Kelly says her daughter has an insulin pump to keep her disease under control, but adds she is not cured, and needs constant monitoring.

Kelly is co-owner of K&S Cupcakery in Port Elgin, but her daughter cannot enjoy the products.

Emma’s “Let EM Eat Cake” team will walk 5 km in the Grey Bruce Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes in Owen Sound Saturday.

Registration starts at 9am at the Inglis Falls Arboretum.
