The Town of Goderich has received a Canadian award.

The Landscape Arborist with the Planning Partnership presented Mayor Deb Shewfelt with an award recognizing the work done on the Courthouse Park following the tornado of 2011.

The award is from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and recognizes Outstanding Achievement in the re-build of the Courthouse Park.

Michael Ormston-Holloway was instrumental in the design of the park and admits it became a pet project for him.

Ormston-Holloway says he was familiar with the park before the tornado, and while he could not duplicate what had been there, he focused on bringing diversity to the park – both in the variety of trees and in their rate of growth in order to provide a layered canopy.

He believes as the new trees continue to grow, Goderich residents will be pleased with what they see.
