ACBA Preparing To Launch Two Floating Wetlands

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is preparing to launch its first two floating wetlands.

In a release, Aquatic Biologist Kari Jean says these floating islands are like rafts and will be placed in the Old Ausable Channel in the Grand Bend area. She says they should assist in reducing nutrients, that can result in a dense growth of aquatic plants.

Jean adds it won’t eliminate all the excess nutrients in the channel but this pilot project is a good start.

A short launch ceremony for the floating wetlands will take place on Wednesday, June 18 at 10am, at the Southcott Pines Park Association clubhouse, off Lakeview Rd.

The Grand Bend Community Foundation has provided a grant for this pilot project.
