Giant Rocking Chair Sends Message In Goderich
The Ontario Health Coalition brought its message and a 10 ft tall rocking chair to the Courthouse Square in Goderich yesterday.
Spokesperson Don Arkell explains they’re taking the rocking chair to almost 30 communities over the 15 days to make the point that Ontario desperately needs more long-term care beds.
Arkell says right now there are 20,000 people in Ontario waiting for beds and another roughly 8,000 waiting in the wrong place, such as hospitals. Arkell adds the problem is both money and a shortage of personal support workers, pointing out that aside from beds, seniors need staff that can spend time with them.
Arkell says another problem is the long wait times for some people to get into a home when they don’t have the support they need or the interaction with other people in their own homes.
