Provincial Historical Award for Goderich Group

Members of a committee based in Goderich have won a provincial award.

The Ontario Historical Society Dorothy Duncan Award for Outstanding Service is being presented to The Great Lakes Storm of 1913: A Remembrance Committee.

Committee spokesperson Paul Carrol explains this project was unique because it started as a series of seminars and presentations over a period of months.

¬†Carrol says, “I think it was an event that was a little bit different in that it simply built up over a period of time,¬†to a series of culminating events on the weekend which was the 100th anniversary of the storm.”

Carrol adds they started out with the base group in Goderich and gradually involved similar groups from Sarnia, along the shoreline to Tobermory and across the lake in Michigan.

The award will be presented in North York on June 14th and there will also be a presentation at the June 23rd meeting of Goderich council.
