Huron County Museum Collections Storage Issues

A consultant’s report on the status of storage facilities at the Huron County Museum in Goderich pointed to two critical problems.

The report identified a serious lack of storage space, as well as describing one building as ‘a barn’ that was not suitable to storing some of the collections currently inside the building.

Cultural Services Director Meighan Wark says they’ve already started the process of digitalizing some of their documents, but that will only address a very small part of their capacity issues.

She feels Huron County will have to look at options as far as using more county-owned buildings, or expanding some buildings, or acquiring new buildings going forward.

Wark adds they have not reached the point where they have to start giving back or rejecting donated items.
