More Bluewater Schools Face Future Closure
The Bluewater School Board will face enrolment challenges in the coming years.
A consultants study of future accommodation needs predicts as many as 18 Bluewater schools may have to close over the next 15 years.
It’s due to demographic trends and declining enrolment.
Since 2001/02 elementary enrolment has declined by more than 20% Board-wide and it is projected to continue declining in the short to mid-term.
Director of Education Steve Blake says they commissioned the report because people wanted to have a better idea of what’s ahead.
No specific schools are named in the report for possible closure.
Blake says the report will be studied closely by Bluewater trustees and staff.
