4 New Stores To Replace Goderich Zellers

Goderich councillors approved a zoning amendment last night that will allow the former Zellers store at the Suncoast Mall to be divided up to accommodate four smaller stores.

The new stores include a Sport Chek store, a ladies clothing store and two department stores.

Dan Amadio is a planner representing the mall’s owners.

He says the outside footprint of the mall won’t be changed and each of the four new stores had to be at least ten-thousand square feet so not a store that would normally be located on the downtown square.

Amadio points out the longer the store remains empty the longer it will be to attract new stores or keep existing stores so they would like to get started on the renovations as soon as possible.

He adds the plan has the support of the Goderich B-I-A.

Amadio says the mall owners hope to have the new stores open this fall.
