Part of an ecologically sensitive coastal wetland in Kincardine will receive a prescribed burn this week, weather permitting.

The burn will take place starting at the the south end of Sunset Road and following the shoreline north to Concession 10.

The problem is the invasive Common Reed which is severely impacting the shoreline.

The burn will be conducted by the company Wildfire Specialists Inc in co-operation with Dover Agri-Serve – Habitat Restoration Specialists.

There will be no burning under certain wind direction that could impact people who have windows open or laundry on the line. The municipality says the major volume of smoke will be in the upper atmosphere that will last no longer than a minute. Intermittent smoke in the lower landscape will last as long as the ignition phase.
