Job Disconnect An Issue In Huron County

[toggle title=””]…[/toggle]A consultant with the Four County Labour Market Planning Board has told Huron County councilors there is a damaging disconnect between employers, employees, and young people getting ready to enter the job market.

Harry Cummings of Harry Cummings and Associates concedes that providing young people with the skills employers are looking for is part of the problem. He also points out that attitude, and a willingness to learn and be flexible, are even more important.

Cummings says most employers believe they can train someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn, and an ability to communicate and be a team player, but the skills cannot be taught to someone who doesn’t have the right attitude to begin with.

Cummings says the province has to understand that one solution doesn’t fit the entire province,  and working requirements differ from urban to rural, and small to large workplaces.
