Firefighters from five stations spent the night at a barn fire north of Blyth.

The fire was in a large chicken barn on Moncrieff Rd., near London Rd./Hwy. 4. A neighbour spotted the smoke just before 9pm last night and alerted the owner.

Firefighters from North Huron, Huron East, Brussels, Ethel, and Central Huron responded.

North Huron Fire Chief David Sparling called it a “major fire”, with an estimated 46,000 chickens killed in the blaze. Damage is estimate is over $1-million.

Water had to be taken from a nearby creek.   Water pressure in Blyth will be low today because of the volume used fighting the fire.
