No New Hospital for Kincardine

It looks like the residents of Kincardine will not be getting a new hospital.

South Bruce Grey Health Centre President and CEO Paul Rosebush says plans are in the works to submit a proposal to renovate the existing building, and in the process, withdraw their proposal to build a new hospital at a cost of $105-million.

He says letters from Minister of Health Deb Matthews and the capital planning branch of the ministry have made it clear the Kincardine proposal stands little chance of moving forward in the near future, so they have to be proactive and look at other options.

Rosebush says the renovation would focus on the emergency room and diagnostic laboratory areas, but cautions the plans are not set in stone and are currently out for pricing, with hopes it will be at least half the cost of the original proposal.┬áRosebush adds the goal is to have the plans in front of the hospital’s board of directors in June.

The board submitted updated build plans to the Ministry of Health last year after the original proposal was scrapped by the provincial government’s budget in 2012.
