Huron Food Bank Struggling
Huron County councillors have asked for a report from staff before they approve a request from the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre.
The centre has asked County Council for $25,000 a year for each of the next three years.
Executive Director Mary Ellen Zielman says the need for support is increasing every year and they’re struggling to provide that support. Zielman adds the food banks tell her they’re seeing new families each month, and many of them are families with both parents working, but who still can’t make ends meet.
Zielman says they get a lot of food donated to them by local producers but they still have to go out and buy some things and they’re limited by the amount of money they have coming in.
Huron County Council asked for a report from staff and will consider the dollar figure after studying the report.
