West Grey Turbine Hearing Underway

A West Grey man has forced an environmental review tribunal hearing over a proposed wind turbine development in West Grey. The hearing is underway in Durham.

Nextera Energy has Ministry of the Environment approval for 14 wind turbines east of Durham.

Area resident Leonard Van Den Bosch has appealed the approvals. He maintains the cement used at the base of the turbines is toxic. As well, he claims the chemicals from the concrete will damage the habitat of a fish in area streams designated an endangered species.

Lawyers for Nextera say they’ll present expert witnesses refuting the Van Den Bosch claims.

The hearing is taking place at the Durham Community Centre. It’s to run through Wednesday of this week and another full week in May.
