Flood Warning Issued In Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for Forrester’s Bridge area in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.
The authority says ice packs on the Maitland River have begun to breakup and move downstream, causing a significant ice jam at Forrester’s Line and County Rd. 31. They say the jam is resulting in rapidly rising water levels in the area.
The MVCA says ice jams are unpredictable and it is difficult to estimate how long this situation will persist. They’re recommending the municipality evacuate dwellings on Forresters Line.
Meanwhile, the flood watch that has been in place for the Saltford area has now been extended to cover the lower Maitland River from Belgrave Line to Saltford.
The conservation authority will continue to monitor river flow, rainfall and weather forecasts hourly.
