Meaford Community Awards

There was something rare at the Meaford Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Presentation on the weekend.  The competition was so close among the nine nominees for the Tourism Award that the judges declared a tie between the top two contenders.

The co-winners were ‘The Scarecrow Invasion’ and ‘A Better Bed-and-Breakfast Experience’. About 200 Chamber members and guests attended the Community Awards Night at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.

The owner and staff of The Shoe Tree won the Customer Service Award;   The Meaford Independent, an online newspaper, won the Most Improved Business Award;  The Coyote Running Club was the winner of the Special Merit Award;   and the Business Owner of the Year Award went to Bill MacDonald, owner of Bill’s ValuMart.

Peter McDonald, owner of Sunrise Organics, received the Agribusiness Award for demonstrating sustainable farming practices and developing innovate products.

Lindy Iversen was presented with the Peter Francis Memorial Award for her outstanding leadership as a volunteer.
