Meaford Not Changing Its Name

Meaford residents won’t have a chance this fall to vote on whether they want the municipality’s name changed.
Council turned down a motion to place the name change question on the ballot in in the October municipal election.
Councillor Linda Stephens wanted to give voters a chance to respond to the question: “Do you support changing the name ‘the Municipality of Meaford’ to a different name?”
Deputy Mayor Harley Greenfield pointed out that changing the municipality’s name would be expensive, because all signs, wording on vehicles, and letterheads would have to be changed.
