Meaford Hires Consultant to Determine Policing file photo

The debate over which police force should patrol the Municipality of Meaford has been suspended for a while.

Meaford council voted last night to hire a consultant to review the offers from the OPP and the Owen Sound Police Service, and recommend one.

The proposal from the Owen Sound Police Service is about $9.4-million over five years. The OPP quote for the same period is between $10.2-million and $11.8-million, depending on the level of service Meaford chose.

Treasurer Darcy Chapman said hiring a consultant to review the two policing choices would cost between $25,000 and $40.000.
