Harriston Flood Threat Possible
The General Manager of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is hoping for a gentle ease into spring.
Phil Beard says there is so much snow out there that a few mild days in a row could spell trouble, particularly in some sections of Harriston.
Beard told Wellington North council that two-thirds of Harriston is located in the flood plain, and that area contains $50-million in assessment. Beard says Harriston is the most flood-prone urban area in the Maitland Valley watershed.
Showers are forecast for Thursday and Friday, and much milder temperatures are expected right through the weekend.
That could cause some of the snowpack to melt quickly, and that would result in rising river and stream levels throughout the region.
