Brockton Continues Use Of Telephone and E-Voting
Residents in the Municipality of Brockton will once again have the option to vote either by internet or phone for the upcoming municipal election. However, the decision to eliminate paper ballot voting altogether remains.
A petition was brought forward to council outlining a number of concerns from the last election and over internet voting. Including, privacy, voter accuracy, and hackers tampering with the system.
Clerk Debra Roth says they’re confident with the electronic method, however to improve security they’ll be asking for a second authentication.
As for the fate of the paper ballot, Roth says staff will determine the cost to have a polling station and it will be brought forward to council at a later date.
