Gateway Rural Health Research Institute Receives Grant

The Gateway Rural Health Research Institute in Seaforth has received a $24,000 grant through the federal New Horizons for Seniors program.

Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb made the announcement in Seaforth on Friday.

Lobb explains the money will be used to promote financial literacy among seniors by teaching senior mentors, who will then go out and teach other seniors about current finances, anticipating future costs and also how to protect themselves against signing contracts that they don’t understand or don’t want to sign.

Lobb points out that few people fully appreciate all of the costs associated with ageing and because Gateway is a research institute they’ll be able to track what works and what doesn’t and pass that on to seniors.
