Maitland Conservation Budget Approved
The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is getting as much mileage as possible out of the available resources.
That’s according to Board of Directors Chair and Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt, speaking to the approval of the 2014 budget with less than a 5 per cent increase in the total levy.
Shewfelt suggests new work plans along with the planned restructuring of services and staffing will help focus efforts on key priorities. They include flood and erosion safety and stewardship initiatives.
Shewfelt states, “we get less and less money from the Province and more and more falls on the shoulders of the municipalities who really own the conservation authority.”
He admits it will be a struggle to implement all the necessary changes associated with the 2014 budget, but assures the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and it’s stakeholders are committed to “looking forward”.
