Charges Laid In Perth County Incident

Several charges have been laid against a man after an incident late yesterday afternoon in Perth County.

It was shortly before 5pm when a Perth County OPP officer observed a suspicious car leaving a rural residence along County Rd. 145, northwest of Sebringville. The car traveled southbound on County Rd. 145 to Hwy. 8, where a stopped OPP cruiser signaled for the car to stop.

The driver of the car refused to stop and sped up as it attempted to drive around the marked cruiser, striking the front of the cruiser and bouncing onto a snowbank. The male driver then fled on foot but was nabbed after a short chase.

Further investigation revealed the car had been taken without permission from a Huron County residence.

Stolen property was located inside the vehicle and the driver was found to be in possession of cocaine.

A 30-year-old of no fixed address faces several charges including three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and driving while disqualified.
