Food drive being hosted in Listowel

Two local churches will host a Stuff the Truck food drive in support of the Salvation Army Community Food Bank.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Paul's Lutheran Anglican Church will host the drive at St. Joseph's on Thursday, June 22. Coordinator Debb Ritchie says the goal is to get the whole community behind the fundraiser.

"It's a one day, one shot challenge to the whole community for everyone to donate at least one non-perishable food item. We'll be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church parking lot on Thursday, June 22, from 6-8 p.m., and if people are unable to attend or drop something off that day, you can drop items off at the local Libro Credit Union in Listowel and the Zehrs in Listowel will also be accepting donations," Ritchie shared.

Ritchie added that donations will be accepted starting June 1.

"They are open and available as of June 1, until June 22, and contributions can also be made at the Salvation Army Food Bank until the end of the month. Financial contributions are being welcomed, as well," added Ritchie.

On top of gathering much needed donations for the food bank, Ritchie says they're hoping to inspire more collaboration and togetherness in the community.

"Well one of the things we're hoping to sort of communicate to the community, with the two churches working together, we feel that we're better together, and when we all work collaboratively, we are better together and we can do bigger and better things. I'm just challenging all my family and friends and my community to step up and if we can get 7,000 pieces of non-perishable food goods, it will put our food bank in a very good place," Ritchie concluded.
