UPDATE: Time change for blood donation event in Mount Forest as Canadian Blood Services calls for more donors

Canadian Blood Services are calling on more new donors as supplies continue to be strained following the pandemic.

A donation event will be held in Mount Forest on Tuesday, June 6 at the Mount Forest and District Recreation Complex from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (originally slated for 3-8 p.m.). Canadian Blood Services says in a release that "the impact of the pandemic has made the need to acquire new donors even more important to ensuring patients’ needs will continue to be met."

According to Canadian Blood Services, they need to build a more diverse donor base, which will help meet complex and underserved patient needs.

"Blood from donors of the same or similar ethnic background as the recipient is less likely to cause complications. Achieving greater diversity in our blood system is particularly important for patients who need regular transfusion therapy, including those with sickle cell disease, cancer, thalassemia, or bleeding disorders," the release added.

Visit blood.ca, use the GiveBlood app, or call 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to find and book an appointment at a donor centre near you.
