Benches honouring homicide victims unveiled by Victim Services

Victim Services Huron has unveiled three commemorative benches honouring local homicide victims.

On May 17, a ceremony was held at the Brussels Library, to unveil the benches which have been installed across Huron County. OPP Huron County Detachment Commander Inspector Jason Younan gave comments to the gathered crowd, and greetings were sent on behalf of Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thomspon.

The benches are in memory of three homicide incidents in the past five years,  which resulted in the loss of five lives, including Doug and Marian Fischer, Laura Wigelsworth, Beverly Stevenson and Darwin Ducharme.

Victim Service Huron Executive Director, Deborah Logue, gave a moving presentation as she assured the survivors and families present that they are not alone.

The remarkable attendance today demonstrates the strength and unity of our community, and it reminds us that we are not alone in our journey of healing and remembrance," Logue stated. "Our doors remain open to you, offering a safe haven, a listening ear, and unwavering support. Together, we will continue to advocate for justice, healing, and a brighter future. Let these memorial benches serve as a reminder of the resilience and compassion that define our community. May it be a source of comfort for all who seek solace and a testament to our unwavering commitment to stand with survivors."
