Perth East have awarded the tender to replace part of the Perth East Rec Centre roof in Milverton.
Becky Westman, Director of Recreational Services, says they determined in 2021 that part of the roof needed to be replaced, and they have now settled on the company who will do the work this summer.
"We have awarded the project to Riverside Roofing, who will be coordinating that in July or so," Westman shared.
With the work slated for this summer, Westman says there's a reason for that.
"The type of roof that it is, it needs to be a hot temperature out for the adhering, so that's when we expect it to be looked at," added Westman. "The roof being replaced is on the part between the banquet hall and the arena. So it's a neutral zone, I guess, and the arena side is not being replaced yet."
Perth East determined back in 2021 that part of the roof at the rec centre needed work, and Westman says they have a number now on what it will cost.
"So the total cost of the project is estimated to be about $300,000. We actually have to remove the HVAC units, as well, so that's an added cost to the actual roofing project, itself," Westman explained.
The money is coming from municipal reserves.
