Local council creates draft bylaw addressing short-term rentals

Bluewater council has put together a draft bylaw to address some of the concerns around short term rentals.

Chief Building Official Aaron Stewardson says council is looking to have something in place soon.

“Council is looking to have something in place to help control some noise, parking and other bylaw complaints related to short term rental properties. If people still want to comments we definitely receive them and make sure council hears those comments," Stewardson stated.

Stewardson also points out, they're not trying to restrict short term rentals.

“Council's looking to create a good harmony with both the economic development and the tourism industry and keeping the public at peace as far as bylaw complaints go. So we're hoping to have something in place to control both aspects and keep everyone happy,” said Stewardson.

Council is hoping to be able to pass a final bylaw in March and then receive all of the short term rental applications in April and then be able to fully implement the bylaw by July 1.
