Huron County to host local job fair

Huron County will host a job fair this month for post secondary students looking for summer jobs.

Acting Talent Acquisition Specialist Joel Paakkunainen says since the pandemic, they've experienced a significant decline in the number of student applications, so they wanted to do something different this year, so they've chosen a job fair.

“The purpose of the Job Fair is to inform the post secondary students of the various positions that are available with the county. We're hoping to attract students that may be in the area on University Reading Week," shared Paakkunainen.

The job fair is being held on Saturday, February 25 from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Huron County Museum.

Paakkunainen says the county has a wide range of positions available and it gives the students an opportunity to experience working in something they're interested in or in some cases find out they're not as interested as they thought they might be, but either way it's a valuable experience. He says some of the positions include working in the library or museum, and many more.

“Our Social Properties Service Department and our Homes for the Aged Department will both be hiring maintenance students. Public Works Department is hiring road maintenance students. Our Business Technology Solutions Department will be hiring a Geographic Information Systems student," Paakkunainen stated.

Students are welcome to bring their resumes to the job fair or apply online. More information about the positions available can be found at www.huroncounty.ca/jobs.
