Short story contest returning to popular writing festival

Huron County's Programming and Community Engagement Coordinator says the Alice Munro Short Story Contest is one of the highlights of the annual Alice Munro Festival for him.

The contest is provided by a partnership between the Huron County Library and the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story.

Jim Seale there are actually two contests.

“It's called the Short Story Contest but basically there are two contests, one for youth up to eighteen years of age and one for adults that are nineteen years of age and older. There are cash prizes for both," Seale stated.

Seale says it's great to see the professional authors come and read their books, but he says there's something special about amateur story-telling.

“There's something about amateur story-telling that is just wonderful. So it is great to be able to read these stories that come from regular people from around the block or around the corner from your house," added Seale.

Seale explains the Contest is limited to un-published authors, and the deadline for entering both contests is March 15th. The winners will be announced at the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story which runs from June 2 till June 4. Seale says more information about the Alice Munro Short Story Contest and applications can be found on the http://www.alicemunrofestival.ca/shortstorycontest web site.
