Update: COVID-19 outbreak at Seaforth hospital declared over

A COVID-19 outbreak  at Seaforth Community Hospital has been declared over.

The outbreak was declared on January 28, when hospital officials said there were two or more cases of COVID-19. As a result of the outbreak, visitor restrictions were put in place which allowed visitors only for patients in palliative care.

“Upon declaring the outbreak, immediate precautions were implemented, including prevalence testing for patients,” said Quality, Patient Safety, and Infection Control Manager Erica Jensen.

The restrictions on visitors have been lifted, but hospital officials remind visitors that masks must still be worn inside the hospital, and visitors must complete COVID-19 screening.

“While this outbreak is over, we can’t stress enough the importance of layering up your protection to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses that are circulating in Huron Perth,” added Jensen. “Keep up-to-date with your vaccines/boosters, wear a mask when in indoor public spaces, wash your hands often and stay home if you are feeling sick.”
