Crime Stoppers releases 2022 statistics

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington has released their 2022 statistics.

The anonymous crime reporting organization has shared that last year, tipsters helped recover $26,565 worth of property that was stolen, along with $81,954 in drugs for a total of $108,519. Additionally, nine cases were cleared thanks to tipster information. This resulted in 13 individuals being arrested, 45 charges being laid and $4,775 in rewards authorized by the CSGW Board of Directors.

The release was sent out during Crime Stoppers month, which is every January. This year’s theme for Crime Stoppers Month is “Stand Up, Stand Together." To make an anonymous tip, call 1-888-222-TIPS (8477) or visit https://ontariocrimestoppers.ca/.

“This is another good news story for the residents of the City of Guelph and County of Wellington,” said CSGW Board President Deryck West. “Crime Stoppers is being used effectively to keep our communities safe. We also thank our investigative partners, Wellington County OPP and Guelph Police Service, who investigate a large portion of these tips.”

Program Coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter indicated the support of the community is evident in these statistics.

“Regardless of how many tips come in each year, the quality of the tips we receive is very high,” she said. “Tipsters know that they can count on Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington to keep them anonymous and their information confidential. This is why they pick up the phone or go to our website to report crime.”
