The Director of the Special Investigations Unit has ended an investigation into the arrest of a Southampton man last fall.
SIU Director Joseph Martino ended the investigation that stemmed from an arrest in the evening of October 7, 2022. A man was arrested by Saugeen Shores Police Service for public intoxication by an officer that night.
Two days later after the man was released from custody, the man went to a local hospital where he was allegedly diagnosed with a concussion and fractured vertebrae. The man claimed his injuries stemmed from the arrest by the officer, but the man refused to provide his medical history to SIU investigators.
As a result of the man not providing sufficient evidence that he suffered his alleged injuries at the hands of the Saugeen Shores Police Officer, Director Martino has deemed the file closed in respect to the SIU.
