Funding helps complete projects along G2G Trail

The federal government, through the Tourism Relief Fund, has partnered with Rural Tourism Organization 4 and provided $60,000 to support enhancements to the G2G Trail in North Huron and in Huron County.

G2G Board member Chris Lee says several projects were involved and local sponsors have also stepped up to add to the government funding. Lee says the projects have all been completed, including hiring a couple of tree harvesters to get all of the dead ash trees cut down before they fell onto the trail from Guelph to Goderich. That was sponsored in part by the Maitland Trail Association.

“We had another project sponsored by the Blyth Lions Club where we've improved all the access points from Goderich through to Millbank so that they're more accessible and have better way-finding and improved latches and approaches," Lee said.

Lee says that will make the trail more accessible for people who require mobility devices.

“We also have another project on the go with the Menesetung Bridge Association developing the arboretum, improving that with plantations and so on, and more naturalized areas between Highway 21 and the Menesetune Bridge at Goderich," added Lee.

In North Huron, Lee notes they've upgraded the way-finding and the accessibility and the trail has been integrated into the town of Blyth. Lee says Blyth has become a poster child for what the trail can be, given the volume of people that come in off the trail to spend time and money in the village.
