Man arrested after homeless shelter break-in

A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a local homeless shelter after being removed numerous times.

Huron County OPP were called in the evening on December 29 to the North Street United Church in Goderich after receiving a report of a break and enter. Officers say the man had been banned from the shelter by staff due to his behaviour and non-compliance, but he was later allegedly found crawling in the ceiling space between the first and second floors. The man eventually fell through the ceiling, causing damage to the drywall, and was removed from the property by staff.

Police then went looking for the man and located him in Goderich. Officers subdued the man and brought the 32-year-old of no fixed address to the OPP Clinton detachment for processing. The man is now facing charges including break and enter and mischief. The accused male has been held in police custody following a bail hearing.
