Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame announces candidates for the 2022 Tip O'Neill Award

A pair of Blue Jays and a big-time arm in Cleveland are the three candidates for the 2022 Tip O'Neill Award.

The award is handed out annually by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys to recognize the top Canadian player "judged to have excelled in individual achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball’s highest ideals."

This year's finalists are gold glove winner and star first baseman Vlad Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays and his teammate Jordan Romano, the superstar closer who became the first Canadian to record 30 saves for a Canadian big-league team. Joining the two Jays is Cleveland ace Cal Quantrill, who led the AL Central winning Cleveland Guardians in wins from the mound with 15 this season.

On top of those, Cleveland slugger Josh Naylor, Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta, Blue Jay reliever Zach Pop, Chicago Cubs reliever Rowan Wick, and Seattle arm Matt Brash are all in consideration among MLB players. Ellie Jespersen of Spruce Grove, Alberta also dominated the women's game this season, as she earned the National Team's MVP honour for 2022.

A full list of eligible candidates for the award, which fans can help vote for until November 22, are available on the Hall of Fame's website here
