Officer allegedly assaulted during arrest

A recent altercation in South Bruce Peninsula has resulted in some serious charges.

On November 13, Grey-Bruce OPP officers responded to a reported assault on John Street in Wiarton. Police arrived and placed one person under arrest. During the arrest, police claim that the individual began resisting arrest, causing an alleged injury to an officer, who was treated at a local hospital and released.

The accused was taken to the Wiarton OPP station where it's alleged they attempted to take a weapon from an officer's duty belt.

As a result, a 34-year-old South Bruce Peninsula native has been charged with break-and-enter, assault, disarming a peace officer and assault with the intent to resist arrest. The accused is being held pending a bail hearing on November 14.
