New fire chief hired for Huron East and North Huron fire departments

A new fire chief has been hired to represent both the Huron East and North Huron fire departments.

Following a lengthy search, the two municipalities have announced that Kent Readman will step in as of December 6 as the new fire chief for the area. Retiring Chief Marty Bedard will work with Chief Readman and help him through the transition process. Chief Readman has over 20 years of volunteer firefighting experience and has been a chief the last 5 years. He is also a Director on the Ontario Association of Fire Chief’s Board of Directors and was rooted in Huron County as a member of the North Huron Fire Department until 2015.

At that time, Readman left to further his career in pursuit of being a fire chief. He now returns to the area to lead the North Huron and Huron East fire departments.

Huron East Mayor Bernie McLellan stated “The Municipality of Huron East is fortunate and values the qualifications, skills and experience Mr. Readman brings to the position. We look forward to working with Mr. Readman and wish to thank Fire Chief Bedard for his 29 years of service to the Municipality of Huron East."

North Huron Reeve Bernie Bailey also shared “The Township of North Huron is excited to welcome Mr. Readman back to the North Huron Fire Department as Fire Chief. Mr. Readman’s interest in fire services began at a very early age and it is an honour to have him step into this leadership role. North Huron values and appreciates the shared service agreement with the Municipality of Huron East and we look forward to this continued shared services arrangement."
