AMDSB offering old artifacts from local school at open house for new school in Stratford

Residents in Stratford are invited to an open house of the new local school.

Avon Maitland District School Board Superintendent Jane Morris says back in 2019 the trustees re-organized the schools in the city of Stratford and made the decision to reconfigure Stratford Central Secondary School and Stratford Northwestern Secondary School into Stratford Intermediate School and Stratford District Secondary School.

She says the committee that was in charge of dealing with the memorabilia didn't get a chance to complete that before COVID arrived.

"So this Thursday evening, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stratford District Secondary School, the former Northwestern site, we will be displaying the memorabilia from the two former schools that's up for grabs for the public to take," Morris said.

Morris says the Stratford Perth Museum and the Perth Archives have taken anything that was deemed historically significant and they've also put extra year books and active trophies and anything else that's still in use is back in the school.

"What is available to the public this week are plaques and pictures and extra copies of year books, some jerseys, things that the schools no longer need and that we thought the public might like to have in their possession," adds Morris.

Also, Morris notes that people can pick any items they would like and cash donations are welcome on October 27th at the school, with the funds going back to the school to support student programming. Morris says, on the same night, they're also hosting an open house to give people a chance to have a look at the new school.
