OSFHO confirms patient information may have been accessed by unauthorized third party

The Owen Sound Family Health Team has informed some patients that a data security incident took place in July, and personal health information of patients may have been accessed.

CKNXNewsToday.ca was contacted by more than one patient that received letters from the OSFHO, which says information such as names, date of birth, contact information, health card information and health history, including diagnosis, medication, referrals and visits, may have been accessed by the unauthorized third party.

The organization says it took steps to block the unauthorized access and secure patients' information.

Patients say they're concerned about the response to this data breach being "farmed out," claiming the family health organization is not responding to their inquiries, and the organization has provided an off-site group that is reading from a script in an attempt to quell their concerns.

After contacting the OSFHO, CKNXNewsToday.ca received a response from Business Manager Bryanna Cobean, which says that they became aware that their system had been targeted via "sophisticated means" on July 11, 2022, and they recently notified authorities and individuals whose information was stored on their system and may have been impacted.

She says the matter is "of the utmost concern to the Owen Sound Family Health Organization and is being treated as our highest priority."

The OSFHO say it apologizes for any concern this incident may have caused.
