Major barn fire deemed non-suspicious by police

A major barn fire in Perth East has been deemed not suspicious by police.

On the morning of October 5 at 12:25 a.m. Perth County OPP responded alongside Drayton Fire Department, Linwood Fire Department, Mapleton Fire Department-Moorefield, Milverton Fire Department and Sebringville Fire to a barn fire on Highway 86. Police were told that the barn, containing some horses, dogs and puppies, was fully engulfed. Crews battled the blaze through the early morning hours, closing Highway 86 for a brief time, but it has since re-opened.

There were no injuries reported at the scene, however, 3 horses, 2 dogs and 11 puppies are reported to have been lost in the blaze. The fire has been deemed non-suspicious by investigators. The damage is estimated at approximately $500,000.
